Hi Tim, I've been to the KWFM web site many times. You guys have done a
great job on it. It's a shame there isn't a KDKB one.

The playlist archives & personal history are great. I enjoyed reading
awhile back how Nina Joy did her show in the nude and you (the
listener) missed it. 

Radio is notorious for forgetting its past so it's nice to see such an
excellent work in progress. It validates what happened back then and
those that contributed to it.

Was working in Tucson from 1975-1980. Loved that
station, been none like it since. Grew my interest for alot of new
music and boy was there some good music in that you all invited us to
hear.   

CHeif Engineer of KWFM (KCEE, and later KRQQ and KNST) until 1985 just
before the sale to SFX which became CLear Channel.  Great times and
places.  I worked for Behan, American Media and Prism.

Nice site. I appreciate the historical significance of such sites,
especially with regards to the evolution and current state of radio
today. Indeed, kwfm was born in the true spirit of radio, a rarity
today outside of free-form college and pirate broadcasts. kwfm's
influence on myself and friends who grew up to be musicians was
invaluable. To this day i miss the old FM delivery, typified by voices
like Bob Bish (when I hear todays "radio personalities", zingers, and
obnoxious production thats when I reach for my revolver). It was my
observation that the station changed pretty heavily after about
1977-78, playing more toward standard hit formats. Its interesting to
me to read others' comments that post-1978 could be considered "the
golden age" of kwfm (I wouldve considered 1970-76 the golden age of FM
in general). Unfortunately my interest in commercial radio waned around
the time time krq and klpx appeared (78?) as the competition seemed to
breed less creative air programming (and my music tastes went
underground where they've remained ever since). But thats just me. 
Thanks for a wonderful site. And thanks for having a hand in the
evolution of radio. kwfm was great (especially the jerry's audio "album
of the week" on weds nights where you would even give us time to cue up
our cassette recorders! boy, try that in today's ridiculous anti-music
sharing corporate atmosphere).

from dead. In fact, webstreaming makes it easier to access than ever.
Check the streams of wfmu, kzsu, wnyu, kfjc, kexp, wkcr and others.

Wow, I wish I had been in Tucson at the time of this station! My
girlfriend used to work at Shipwreck Kelly's and would watch a band
called "Central Air, of whom she just turned me onto. 

What's the backstory on those guys? What an awesome group! Thanks

     I found this site while trying to locate any information on the
DJ, Nina Joy. Besides this station, she also was on the FM station
"KDKB" (The early, really cool format KDKB, not the commercial-format
station it later turned into) in Phoenix in the early '
1970's. Does anyone know whatever happened to Nina Joy...???

Hey, you folks got my name all wrong!  It all started back in 1976 at
KIKX 580, .........KWFM .....  KLPX ..... KKLD .....KUPD ..... KDKB
....  England .. Guam ... and the saga continues!

Howdy and thanks for doing such a great job on your web site!  Many
great memories came flooding back.  I was very fortunate to have worked
with folks like Brian Miller, Jim Brady, Alan Browning, Bob Cooke, Bob
Bish and many more beginning in 1976.  Oh, do we have some stories to
tell when we all get together around a pitcher of margaritas?!  

I'm even luckier to still be friends with most of them today.  Our hair
has some grey in it, there are fewer of us still around and we now all
have real jobs.  But it is a rich experience to relive the crazy days
of life at KWFM before the Empire of the Formats took over....  Before
the dark times.  We were considerably more carefree back then.

On the air I was Bob Allen. KWFM introduced me to Spanish language radio
through it's sister station KEVT where I also worked (in Spanish). Some
time later after working in both languages I went to Spanish in both
Tucson & Phoenix full time where I spent 40 years.

It is with deep regret I sadly post the passing of Margie Rye (Wrye).
She was on of the KWFM originals. Sadly she passed away yesterday
December 14, 2017. I do not know the cause yet. I a hoping you can
setup some sort of tribute for her on this website. If you need to
contact me, you have my email. 

Great work you guys. How I miss this kind of taste. I'll always remember
my friends on that station and that period. Thanks for giving us this
reminder.

My start was at Chicago's WYEN in 1973. I'm still on the air at WKOA
Lafayette In. Several of our personalities have spent time in Tuson.
I'm glad you have kept the memories alive. 

Great site. This brings back a lot of memories for me from the mid-70's.
I was actually googling for some info on Street Pajama when I found this
related site.

Holy smokes! I was there for the Lee Dombrowski, Jim Hardy, Nancy
Wilson, Jim Ray days. And I worked with lots of the alumni at KTKT/KLPX
too. I went to Denver with Hardy and later Lee then moved east to Prov.
RI market. I saw Hardy in San Francisco about 15 years ago. We had a
great visit. And where's Kimberly Craft? I saw her in Boston in the
80's. I'm practicing law now but KWFM has my fondest of memories.

It was so much fun photographing the crew throughout the years. KWFM was
my favorite station. Miss all of you.

In 1981 or 82 KWFM partnered with the U of A Flandrau Planetarium to
present "Cosmic Radiance" the first locally produced full-featured
laser light show ever done there. 

The show opening was a panorama of the Tucson skyline with an orange
setting sun, under which the KWFM logo letters faded in. The sun set as
the panorama faded out and then the letters faded out as the music
started. 

I remember going to the KWFM studios every week with an arm-load of LPs
to trade for the LPs for the featured artist for that week's show. We
mixed the show in a small studio in a converted closet covered in
carpet by the planetarium loading dock then took the tape into the
theater to add the visual effects.

I can still see the images from 'Dark Side of the Moon' in my minds
eye. (We certainly played that show a lot!) One of the best points of
my life.

Thanks for this web site's trip down memory lane.

Truly a great station! Remembering staying in the car - even after
arriving at your destination- to finish listening to Hey Jude or Layla-
played in their entirety, of course. Miss hearing all kinds of music and
great DJs.

I was looking for Margie Rye and found your website...  My sister Toni
Nichols worked in the offices of KWFM until her death nearly three
years ago... the names I saw here were familiar from hearing her talk
about you all like "family"... I love Tucson, and still hope to move
back there one day...

really helped promote local bands.
Those memories of the desert are still dear to all of us that were
