So, AM 1330 has gone dark and with it the KWFM call letters have been
released.
Somebody, please fix the KWFM Wikipedia page! It doesn't even mention
this giant FM station.

Started listening to K-Dub-Ya in 1970 until we got assigned to a base in
Germany in 1972. Came back to go to the U of A in 1973 and this was
STILL the only station in town to listen too. Spent so many nights in
the design studio at the U listening to K-Dub during all night
charrettes and jamming to artists you’d never hear anywhere else. I
have so many fond memories listening to this station and wish I had
gotten all the playlists thru the 70’s. After leaving Tucson in 1980
I gave up on finding a better station to listen to because where I
landed there were none to be found. I hope folks keep adding to the
playlists because there’s a certain song I’m trying to find but
can’t remember the artist or the songs title. Thank so much for
providing this web site!

Thank you for keeping Bob Cooke's memory alive. I was a teenager and Bob
let me host a 30 minute radio show on Sunday evenings for my JA project.
He was such a cool dude. I was broken when he was murdered. So many
years later and I still think of him from time to time. He was that
special. We had him for such a short time and he was way ahead of his
time. He would have ended up being one of the greats for sure.

On the air I was Bob Allen. KWFM introduced me to Spanish language radio
through it's sister station KEVT where I also worked (in Spanish). Some
time later after working in both languages I went to Spanish in both
Tucson & Phoenix full time where I spent 40 years.

Just found this site somehow when revisiting the record "KWFM On The
Air". I grew up with KWFM but I moved to San Diego in 82 and to
Australia in 84. Really, really, miss it. I understand there is a new
incarnation on the AM band now. Can't possibly be the same can it? My
souvenirs extend to "KWFM On The Air" and 5 C90 cassettes taped off the
air when everybody went on holiday (or something) and had a robot DJ (or
something) play every Rolling Stones track from A to Z (or whatever). I
remember there was a contest where you were supposed to figure out
which one track was left out. Anyway I have from approximately D to S
with some inevitable missing periods.

I just listened to an old tape I found of the KWFM Jazz Show with Chris
Ryan! Sure brings back memories and it was so nice to hear Chris'
voice again. I miss those days. IMO, the Sunday night Jazz Show was
absolutely the best part of KWFM. Hope Chris is doing well.

Just found out today (Oct 2018) about Margie Rye. Deepest sympathy.
Spent the rest of the day reflecting back tot he 70's & 80's. She gave
me an Tucson and a year at KUPD Phoenix many years of good rock and roll
entertainment. Back before internet I would tape her's and KWFM radio
shows an play them back when working up in Springerville pretending it
was the radio. I just loved it when Margie would host concerts. Margie
you were an original.

I lived in Tucson from '76-'79 & I remember that the DJ's would always
answer the phone with,"FM", because it was understood that this is the
ONLY station of note! I also remember they played a song for me on my
birthday(as requested by my sister, I was in the desert partying & she
knew I would be listening)it was "Montana" by Frank Zappa, who else
would play him??!!
One other memory, I scoured the city to get as many bumper stickers
as I could & covered every square inch of my bedroom walls with them!
It looked pretty cool! Glad to have found you guys!

It is with deep regret I sadly post the passing of Margie Rye (Wrye).
She was on of the KWFM originals. Sadly she passed away yesterday
December 14, 2017. I do not know the cause yet. I a hoping you can
setup some sort of tribute for her on this website. If you need to
contact me, you have my email.

I worked as an ad sales rep for KWFM from 1983-1985. Won a couple of
Tucson ADDY awards for the the copy I wrote that was produced by the
great air staff of both KWFM and then sister station KCEE-AM.

In 1983-84, I remember assisting our Chief Engineer (I can only recall
his first name was "Bill") with the installation of the new transmitter
and STL on top of the mountain after hours.

Dan Hicks of NBC Sports (Golf, and most recently 2016 Olympic Swimming)
got his start at KW/KC around that time.

Tim. Just got off the phone with JB. He agrees with me that all of us
(former jocks, sales, mgmt. personel) have put one hell of a burden on
you, Tim Warden (though he {you}loves it) with keeping this site
updated and ongoing. I don't think it's too much to ask those of us,
including listeners from "the day" to celebrate TIM WARDEN for his
tireless efforts in keeping us connected. How about we figure out an
appropriate 'thank you!' to Tim for his dedication to the K-DUB site???
JB, (Jim Brady) is pretty jammed at Brady Recording Studios in Tucson.
So post. your ideas over the next 60 days and let's see what pops.

Used to hang around with Dave Gordon in the mid-70s. Left town in '77
to report for daily newspapers. Retired in 2013 and moved back to
Tucson. Would love to track Dave down. Anyone know where he is?

It was odd that I was thinking back to the times when I lived in the
barrecks in 73 and 74 at DM. My first exposure to FM radio...and a lot
of other things. It would be great to find some old faces..Anyhow..KWFM
was a great source of entertainment back in the day!!!

Good Gaw-w-w-d Kevin. Just hit on your 10/14/07 post. What a past
blast.I was a choo-choo's around '73-'74.Wonder whatever became of Zeke
(night mgr./bouncer at Choo's). Miss weekends with Joe and the boys from
Weasel. We went to 'Flag' a few times to hear them at their home
bar-Shakey Jake's. That mural on the pool room wall was done by one of
the people who followed me here when I left the D.C. mkt. for K-dub
early 70's. The long haired dude on the wall with the pool cue is moi
(40-yrs.ago). Thanks for your contribution down memory lane. And a HUGE
SHOUT-OUT TO TIM for his tireless efforts in originating and maintaining
this site.

I am so sorry to hear about Nina Joy's passing. She was an inspiration
and a role model for me. The world of radio has lost a great one.

Sad to report the recent passing of the lovely and talented Nina Joy.
Danny Zelisko sent out the news on 11/29:2015. RIP Nina

Amazing to see all these pictures of my parents (Jim and Donna). My
father taught me an appreciation for music that fulfills my life to
this day, and by 15 I could convincingly agree why Aja is superior to
Gaucho; however, my father might disagree. He passed in 2001 and he is
missed dearly. I hope these pictures remain up for a long time.

Looking for Gene/Bill Thayer. Back in my Navy days I was a submarine
sailor stationed in Honolulu, and was the "Ship's Entertainment Petty
Officer".

KPOI was very generous in that they allowed me use of their library and
recording facilities in order to make music tapes for the submarine's
crew music system.

While making a tape one night I encountered Gene Thayer, one of the
"Popular" ones, who allowed me to make copies of some Halloween class
Spooky Tapes made by Gene and Michael Guinn, another KPOI Jock.

Several years ago I found the tapes in my collection of Navy Days
Stuff, and took the time to do some editing and splicing and what have
you and laid the tapes to CD. I wonder if Mr. Thayer or Mr. Guinn would
be interested in a copy of the CD?

The names of the stories are "How I Found Count Dracula" and "The
Monster's Thoughts".

They are both excellent examples of classic radio drama production
work, with cool sound effects and piles of tongue in cheek humor.

Should anyone know them or their whereabouts, please have them contact
me. Halloween is about upon us and I think they would relish some of
their younger days efforts.

Thanks in advance to anyone who could clue them in and/or contact me
via e-mail, and we can go from there.

E-mail is w7tty@centurylink.net

My start was at Chicago's WYEN in 1973. I'm still on the air at WKOA
Lafayette In. Several of our personalities have spent time in Tuson.
I'm glad you have kept the memories alive.

Lived in Tucson 1980 - 82, remember great station highlighted by Bob
Cooke's tribute to John Lennon when he was killed; have two cassettes
of Beatles music thanks to Bob. Sadly we were still there when BC was
taken from us. Still a sad memory to this day. Long live the memory of
KWFM in Tucson and WZMF in Menomonee Falls,WI.

Nostalgic for Tucson. Nice site you've got here. One correction if I
may. You've got a picture in your Gallery labeled "Central Air", which
is actually one of the last incarnations of "The Air Brothers". Left to
right: John Houge, Greg White, Chris Drake, and Dale Caddell.
