Yo Mark...you got me remembering the blinking east-west traffic lights
on 22nd st., Broadway Blvd., Speedway Blvd. Grant Rd., et al.
Sure miss the old K-Dub with AB/JB/Matty/Janie Snyder/Bill Robins/Lee
Dombrowski, so many others, and OF COURSE--the KWFM faithful AND, NEVER
FORGETTING, the businesses putting their hard earned advertising dollars
on K-Dub while we got this puppy in the rating books. For me? '72-'74.
Some of the best times of my life. GOD BLESS MARK YOUNG!! | May 6, 15 | steve howser | bellbrook, OH | | Yeah bro. '72-'77--loved those blinking yellow lights on Speedway,
Broadway, Grant Rd., et al. Loved my days w/AB,JB, Matty, Janie Snyder,
Bill Russell, Lee Dombrowski and the K-Dub fans who supported us thru
the formative years.
God bless, and God rest Mark Young. | Apr 21, 15 | John W. George | Tucson, AZ | | Just discovered this site while looking up "Overheard" by Mississippi
Charles Bevel. I so miss that station! At least we have KXCI... | Nov 2, 14 | mark sterling | tucsdon lived in 85711 zip code since 1976 | | Just took a second look at the pictures from the 9th Anniversary at
Reid Park, what you don’t see are fat people. Now go by any high
school and look at the weight the kids have on. What happen?
Can’t be the beer, we drank plenty of that back then plus drinking
age was 19 so you could start your drinking (legally) career earlier.
We made plenty of runs to Jack in the Box at 10 PM (ya know why), so it
can’t be the snacking.
I think the quality of what food we are sold is the problem. Plus
exercise, too much playing with computer games and not getting out.
Let’s see if we can’t do better with the next generation.
| Aug 14, 14 | Dave Stine | Florida currently... lived 27 years in Tucson. | | You guys REALLY need merchandise! T-shirts and bumper stickers; it's
been years since I've driven a car with a KWFM bumper sticker... it
just hasn't felt right since. | Apr 12, 14 | Jimmy | Boulder | | The Beatles Collage had been going through my head since the 70's .
Never thought that I would ever hear it again ! Bravo ... | Feb 19, 14 | kit j Jenkins | sunrise | | duuuude... are uou guys still on the air?? or is it canned spam

| Feb 6, 14 | mark sterling | Tucson | | Hey Margie, I was hoping that you would known what happened to the
freestyle band. I remember seeing them at tequila mocking bird, El Con
mall back then. | Feb 6, 14 | mark sterling | Tucson | | Just listen to the reunion again. Still sounds fresh.
I was lucky to have been here in the 70's when KW was hot. History was
being made and I didn't even know it then.
Band Free Style. Where are they now? I did Google them but so much
crap comes up. Song I can't take it no more still sounds great.
Dose any one else remember when the City of Tucson would flash the
traffic lights yellow at midnight so coming home from the Night Train
you didn't have to stop. Or better known as the Fright Train. | Feb 6, 14 | mark sterling | Tucson | | Just listen to the reunion again, still sounds fresh. Was lucky to have
been around when this history was being made and didn't even know it.
Dose any one else remember when the City of Tucson would flash the
lights yellow after midnight. So no stopping when coming home from the
Night Train (or Fright Train).
The band free style. Where are they now? Can any one comment on it? I
did Google them but so much crap comes up with it.
Thanks
Mark
Song: I can't take it more, still sound good. | Sep 11, 13 | Margie Rye Wrye (all of the above) | | | Heh, Doug....when I was a young single woman I used "RYE" for some
anonymity at home....you are correct the real spelling is Wrye, but I
answer to either/both...haha :) | Aug 10, 13 | Doug Noyce | Corona de Tucson | | I worked 'with' KWFM from 1979-1982, videotaping their events, including
the Westwood Studios Homegrown stuff, the 9th and 10th anniversaries,
the MODA- Choo-Choos, Mud Wrestling event (I was the photographer for
all MODA events). I will be posting the KVOA PM Magazine segment on
Vimeo and will post a link when it is ready. It is about all that
survives on tape, now digitized. I have the Central Air tape, but it is
so bad it would take years to clean it up, but copies were made for the
entire band and Jim Ray, so someone should have a copy! Whoever
monitors this site, please contact me. Wish I would have known about
the 40th event, I would love to have seen the old gang again. BTW, you
have Margie Wrye's name spelled wrong throughout this entire site.
'Rye' is a drink, not a DJ! ;-) LOL!! | Aug 10, 13 | Doug Noyce | Corona de Tucson | | Found this while searching for MODA Mud Wrestling. I had no idea the KW
was still online! HAHA! I just read the blurs, and I wrote it!!
HAHAHA!!! No one answered the question tho'. I believe it was 1980, but
I need the exact date for a video I am making of the Night Train/ PM Mag
show. I guess locals all know that Martha was fired last year from KVOA
for shop-lifting (like they don't pay her enough!!). | Jul 4, 13 | B. Fox | Daytona Beach | | Was working in Tucson from 1975-1980. Loved that
station, been none like it since. Grew my interest for alot of new
music and boy was there some good music in that you all invited us to
hear. | Jun 19, 13 | Mary Bellafonte | Tucson | | Memories, sweet memories!
Thank You All!!!! | May 30, 13 | Marc Severson | Tucson | | Greatest radio station ever! This is the heart of my college days on
display, thanks! | Apr 25, 13 | John Shook | Phoenix, AZ | | Hi there KWFM folks!! After decades sitting in a closet, I have
transfered nearly 60 photographs I took during my KWFM years
(1974-1980) to disc. I'd like very much to share them with all of you,
as most have never been seen except by a few close friends. Someone
please tell me HOW to get them onto this website. I can't seem to find
out how to accomplish this task. Help. It'll be worth it...wait and
see. Thanks alot, John Shook | Feb 20, 13 | Matt Scholp | Dayton, OH | | My uncle, Steve Howser, was a DJ at KWFM from 1970 to 1971. I have a
reel-to-reel tape of one of his broadcasts from that time, which I have
since converted to digital. Contact me if interested in it. | Oct 5, 12 | Rogelio Perea | New York City | | Stumbled into this site following a memory lane trip that started with
looking for WTBS's Night Tracks show back in 1982. That brought
memories of the Rock and Roll Picture Show; I was 15 at the time living
in Nogales Sonora Mexico (60 miles south of Tucson). Me and my brother
had to rig up our TV antenna on the roof (no cable!) to properly get
channel 9... fuzzy and ghosty at best but it was enough: it was the
once hour we could see videos and listen to them in full blast stereo
sound. Stopped to check the personalities names in the site and it was
like seeing old friends... Mike Rapp... Kimberly Craft... Bryan
Miller...
Been working as a Radio Broadcast Engineer since 1987, currently doing
so in New York City for a Financial News AM station. Far cry from the
days when KWFM was a staple in my HS and college years... and the one
station that kept KLPX on its toes :-)
Long live KWFM! | Aug 25, 12 | Tim Burgess | Tucson | | My aunt, Joan Klukas, worked for KWFM around 1982, 1983 timeframe in the
advertising dept. She brought my 3 brothers and me in for a tour of the
studio on one occasion, where we met DJ Rick Allen, and were given a
Pink Floyd album as a souvenir. It was a great experience to see where
the rubber met the road. | Jun 27, 12 | Michele | Tucson | | Remembering the 1st KWFM day, at the then Randolph Park. Also the many
good times listening to all my favs...ZZ Top, Lynard Skynard, Clapton,
Seger.
Always waiting to hear what concerts were coming to town. Back then
half the fun was waiting over night in line for tickets. I waited for
hours & hours to get Stones tickets in June of 78 for the July show.
The kids in front of me got the last 3 tickets! I went to TCC the
evening of the show, I ended up getting a ticket for $5.00. Wonderful
memories..I'm still a rock n roll girl ! | Jun 4, 12 | Leah Vidal | Tucson | | The Best ever!! | May 16, 12 | Tom Metz (yes! that's right!...L'il Tommy Metz | Oceanside, Calif | | Geez Louise!!! They just cannot make a Radio Station like KWFM was in
the 70's-some of the 80's. Bob Cooke was the Greatest!!!! We had alot
great AM conversation. R.I.P. Mon Ami!!!
Lived in San Francisco in the mid 80's to mid 90's KFOG was like KWFM
but couldn't and never could be like FM in the 70's.
I live in Coastal North County San Diego and we have a cool local
Station called Sets 102, But I like my music via satellite. Too bad we
cannot "beam" all the Greatness of the 1970's KWFM into Space and back
to Earth. It's the Back to Earth that hards!!! Thanks to whoever put
this together!!! My Brother Jim was in a few of those great bands we
had around town back then!!! Adios Muchachos~ Tomas | Apr 28, 12 | Char Cashman | Tucson | | Truly a great station! Remembering staying in the car - even after
arriving at your destination- to finish listening to Hey Jude or Layla-
played in their entirety, of course. Miss hearing all kinds of music and
great DJs.
| Mar 20, 12 | Yogi | | | I so remember and miss the days when radio was good. | Mar 14, 12 | Jim Ray | Charleston/MT Pleasant SC | | Wow, been a long time since I commented on th K-DUB site. Amazing how
many familiar names have popped up. What's more amazing is that this
once powerhouse radio station is still engrained in so people's minds,
we can't forget that part of our lives, I know I sure can't. The years
I worked there and the friends I made and still have will be with me
forever. Thanks Tim for doing this site and thank all of you for
remembering. | Mar 12, 12 | joyce korngold | akron ohio | | memories, what wonderfull memeries Tucson in the 70s thanks all. | Mar 10, 12 | RALPH LOTITO | LEBANON MO | | SANDUSKY RADIO....SHOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT IT...ONLY TO SCREW UP THIS
STATION..WITH TOP 40 DISCO CRAP...NOW THE CALL LETTERS ARE ON AM...THIS
IS..UNACCEPTABLE....GREAT JOB SANDUSKY RADIO...WHAT A JOKE......... | Oct 16, 11 | The Real Ron O'Neil | Honolulu | | On a weekend whim I did a search for the Magic Rat, Michael Hester and I
found that you want to find his whereabouts too. What a perfect time to
have been in radio. I was up on Swan Road at KIKX in 1975-77. Michael
let me visit the KW studio's one night during his air shift. He even
let me do a Beatles segue and KW sounded a little bit TOP 40 there for
a couple tunes. Good Memories for what I can remember but the feeling
thinking back still makes me shake. Too Our Perky Sunny Days! Toodles
Toots. Thank you for this serendipity happen chance. Aloha Baby | Aug 27, 11 | Karl Ireland | Dallas, Texas | | I have to say, whoever did your website did a FANTASTIC JOB!
As a radio junkie, and having been employed at great radio stations
like KNUS 99 Dallas, KVIL, WBEN, I always love to find collections of
those stations assembled into little historical archives of how those
stations appeared in the early days.
How I wish that I could find a KNUS 99 website done even 1/10th as
completely as yours is!
When I was an early teen back in the 70's my sister has some Pure
Prairie League albums, and I never listened to them myself. However I
listened to all of what was available on your site, and I am now hooked
on their music, Thanks!!
Finally, let me add that, as an ex radio broadcast engineer, the high
quality of the audio on this site was a big unexpected surprise!
Thanks again for creating such a wonderful website
that brought me back by reminding me of my previous radio days in the
early 70's!
