PARIS FRANCE

Format: Eclectic

Paris taxi drivers call FIP the taxi driver's radio. FIP (or France Inter-Paris) is the best of the state-owned Radio France stations.

FIP is a very eclectic mix of music, no commercials, and the trademark sulky, sexy air personalities. These ladies, known as "Les Fipettes", specialize in cooing a traffic report to calm you as they explain that you're stuck in a 24 KM, 3-hour jam. A typical set could segue Stravinsky, Pink Floyd, Billie Holliday, Simply Red, Beck. And don't forget "Jazz à FIP" for the evening drive.

If you liked the music mix and sound of, say, Nina Joy on KDKB back in the 70s, you'll like FIP.
